What do you think of the label Cushitic?

In my opinion yes because of the biblical “the curse of Ham”. Extreme groups such as the Hebrew Israelites honestly believe we descend from his son called Cush and that we are cursed with black skin

astaghfirullah.

Hebrew israelites are a joke, cushites are more jewish then them

In my eyes, cushite is just a linguistic group. I don't think of it as an ethnicity. Naturally, we are related to other cushitic speakers but that is as far as it goes.

i just say "horn african" works better as it's a geographical landmass. "horn african and other communities similar to it" works when adding groups like the northern sudanese for example

Not your concern as a Habash.

I've said it before but the word "Af" is very much our ancestors screaming at us to maybe use it somehow for a branch name. Many East Cushitic languages use it for "mouth" and "language" and use it also to refer to the language itself:

Af Soomaali
Afaan Oromoo
Qafar Af
Sidaamu Afoo

It is such a deep root that it is also a word in Ethiosemitic languages like Amharic and Tigrinya as the word for mouth: አፍ (Afi). You even find it in Beja as "Yaf" and "Yeef" for "mouth". Afitic?

hasn't research and proof been given that Somali is also semitic language - also apart from lingustics since islamically Cush was son of Shem and Ham?

Also I don't get how Somali isn't Semitic but people and languages that are literally further away from Arabian peninsula is ? how come the entry point to the horn or any linguistic exchange if it too place was skipped and somehow reached people who are further inside the horn and literally blockaged from even the sea.

Rename it to Somali like how germanic is named after germans since we are the biggest cushitic group
Honestly, it’s be a good way to give ‘Somalian’ a separate meaning and stop people from using that exonym.

Somali/Somalis = ethnic group
Somalian/Somalians = new word for Cushitic

Isaias Afwerki's surname actually keeps with this tradition. His name means "Mouth of Gold". Af obviously being mouth. Might just name one of my future sons that if I live to see the day. A homage to our forebearers and the depth of this word among Cushitic languages.

This is crazy.:dead:

Soomaali is already a sub-category of Lowland Western Cushitic. We have several languages under it, which Af Maxaa is one of them.

Besides, it's time for people of Somalia to define themselves as Somalian nationally.:mjlol:

Somali is a couple of centuries older than Arabic, orally at least, we are part of much older branch of Afroasiatic that branched off.

(note Some linguists argue that South Semitic languages (like Ge’ez, spoken in ancient Ethiopia and Eritrea) preserve older features of Proto-Semitic than Arabic or Hebrew.)

Language FamilyRough Global Landmass Coverage
Indo-European~45–50 million km²+
Afro-Asiatic~10–12 million km²
Turkic~10 million km²

Afweyne is such a good nickname, Abroone is my pick for my first son.
