My opinion on this is complicated.
Somalis should at least bother to learn Somali, that is a given. There is a difference between learning Somali and never being bothered to learn Somali. The latter is rather frightening and poses serious problems for Somali society.
awww youre a baby.
If you don't know Somali what makes you different to any other black personI don't care. All those points you tried to make were completely stupid. If every Somali youth knew how to fluently speak Somali, would Somalia be in a better state? Absolutely not. This thread is a joke, and you clearly made it in spite of me.
Anyways, seeing this thread just proves how judgmental and rude Somalis actually are. Somali community anywhere will NOT prosper if you are belittling Somalis in foreign countries for not knowing the language. You are not doing anything besides pushing your own people away, idiots.
I regret not taking it seriously tbh. I do want to learn to speak it fluently especially before I go visit the country. Not that long ago, I received a post on my wall from an SSpot member stating that I should "go back to Somalia if I cared so much about the Somali culture and language."
This made me think about the current attitudes diaspora Somalis have towards the Somali language.
Is it inherently wrong if you never bothered to learn the language?
If you felt like that than don’t communicate with those Somalis than.i have an automatic prejudice against any somali who dont know their mother tongue.
my nigga how am i gonna communicate with u if i dont want anyone else over hearing our conversation?
it's a damn shame.
Y’all be the same ones wondering why no one wants to go back home and fix the place up.If you don't know Somali what makes you different to any other black person![]()
Learn the language instead of babbling waryaaY’all be the same ones wondering why no one wants to go back home and fix the place up.
With this type of mindset why should we care about the country. Y’all won’t even consider us somali
Don’t talk trash about us than complain why we don’t help than waryaLearn the language instead of babbling waryaa![]()
Ninyahow I'm also a diaspora kid yet I speak SomaliDon’t talk trash about us than complain why we don’t help than warya

Sis I wasn't born in Somalia or raised in Somalia but my Afsomali is on point. I'm not shaming anyone, I'm just tired of Somalis bragging about not knowing their mother tongue. I've a South Korean friend who's parents were born in San Diego, when she was a teenager, she would hire a Korean tutor to teach her Korean. She's fluent in Korean, English and French. It's not hard learning about your language. It's not only you but I've seen fobs who've been here less than 10 years bragging about they forgot afsomali.I'm living in an English-speaking country. How are you going to shame me and other Somalis who live outside of Somalia for not knowing Somali as if it's our fault?
We don't live in a Somali speaking countries, and you guys having this attitude towards Somalis who don't know the language will probably make a lot of them hate Somali culture/Somalis seeing how judgmental Somalis can be.

I used to be just like you believe it or not I self educated myself ignorance is your own fault you can’t blame parents or your place of birth or resident country for your ignorance if you identify as Somali it’s your responsibility to learn the language and culture it’s the foundation of our identity just like learning to read the Quran and studying it is the foundation of being a good Muslim no excuses abaayo get to work the tools are easily accessibleI'm living in an English-speaking country. My main responsibility is to live my best life as much as possible with family and friends. So f*ck you and your "iT'S yOur ResPOnsibILity" bullshit. I will learn Somali whenever i'm free to. I have many things to be worrying about, and many responsibilities. Who was the somali spot memeber? I just need gossip. Your thread is boring
Rocca
Sxb, if their parents didn’t want to teach them Somali, why bother? Kids with autism could only learn one thing at a time. You should also consider that.
