I don't think it's real he recently announced they were ready to do brain surgery to complete this.. In fact I don't think any of Musk's latest ventures are serious including the Boring Company. I'd even go as far as saying Tesla is likely a fraud but the Boring Company stands out the most.

As with most of the new technology I'd probably wait it out until more tests have been done and it starts to become ubiquitous, what's the point of installing it if you're the only one that has it?
