What did Af Somali sound like in the past?

How far back would we be able to go and still understand people, does the Somali of today have too many loanwords?

I know for English you can go back two or three centuries and still communicate with ease.

This question might be hard to answer because until recently Somali was not a widely written language

I think it’s not just the film. If you watch a lot of English films from earlier years, the accents sounds so different. Things change throughout time
