What changes and trends do you see taking place in the diaspora in 10-15 years

Why just the men? I’m seeing a lot of women getting government contracts and opening up care places and making lots of money ect. Also a lot of Somali girls are going into stem and as a people including the women we’re business savvy. But we also have girls who are content to stay the same. Surely the difference will also be seen in women?

What changes and trends do you see taking place in the diaspora in 10-15 years​

Negatives

Genuinely sad wlhi already seeing these below. Plus they will just get worst in the years coming(UK focus as I’m here )

- naming tradition, people are just following west way of having a family name.

- detest for Somalimno ‘I’m not somali’

- loss of Deen or weakening of Deen (looking at you guy gangisters and females who have no ceeb practically naked)

- loss of family (only care for immediate family, don’t want to support unknown family back home

- loss of language and daqaan

Positives

- More educated

- More rich

- More open and understanding

I was very surprised to see a makeup artist Somali woman on YouTube from Canada not speaking or understanding Somali . That’s crazy to me especially since everyone under 25 they’re parents are born in Somalia

I’d argue Canadian somalis are very assimilated into western society, all the good and bad parts

Chinese people have Chinese classes for their kids on the weekends to teach them more of the culture/language, Somalis should do the same. Otherwise the language will be lost 100%. Most of the “hooyo mataalo” generation having kids now aren’t speaking to their kids in Somali whatsoever because they don’t know the language well themselves

In Canada most Somali people I know born here can’t speak Somali. That’s kind of how you can tell the difference between someone born back home and someone born here is whether they speak Somali well or not but ofc there are exceptions
