What are your thoughts on the Brain Drain idea in relation to immigration?

The idea that immigration promotes the draining of intellectuals and hardworking individuals from poor and third world countries? Effectively boosting the host country and causing massive losses for the native country in terms of an educated population, economic system support (taxes), and paying towards the same for another generation.

As a result, the immigrants develop deep roots in their new homes and overtime are practically indistinguishable from the general population in terms of culture and attitudes. This along with the better opportunities make it extremely unlikely that the immigrant ever returns to their own native countries. And as a result, slowing or even perhaps stagnating the growth and development of the native countries.

In this regard I personally believe immigration is perhaps one of the worst things to happen to some regions of the world (Latin America, Africa, India).

But there is no real evidence that if the population stayed that the environment would have improved in any way, or they would have accomplished much. Essentially, would Steve Jobs have ever been able to or decide to create Apple in Syria? Would he have ever attempted to help develop his nation?

No one to blame but themselves.The homelands should build so that the elite don't want to leave.

people shouldn't be forced to leave in a bad country, if the government couldn't run a country it doesn't deserve to be one

I think your argument is rooted in your love for your native home, Somalia. I say, find another Love or home!

Government = people

Was the responsibility of those elites to fix their country. Leaving it was an act of cowardice.

Saying this as a first generation immigrant first class keyboard warrior.

However at the same time we're getting world class education and exposure to how an advanced economy operates and if only 10% of us return they would be more valuable to Somalia than if they've stayed.
