Historically people had to mature fast, there was no time to be a kid. After you were able to walk you had to help the family unless your family was well off to afford outside (tiny majority).
In contrast to present day, children have time to be ”a kid. Being a teenager was actually a recent thing. Even that took time get a hold on society.
I doubt even westerners would have cared about this age gap 20 years ago. A lot has changed.
I wouldn’t do this personally. When you become 18 you are now legally and officially an adult, 100% responsible for your actions. Maybe after a woman reaches this age would I consider.

I think you do get a little less immature at 18 than you were at 17. You get programmed to understand you're now an adult.
