Most Somali historians would agree that clanism was exacerbated during colonialism, if not deliberately encouraged by colonial powers.
Everyone talks about the negatives. Yes, they did terrible things, but that does not make us ignore that there are many positives and development, whether for African countries or people.
1. Infrastructure Development:Some colonial powers constructed infrastructure such as railways and roads in certain regions, facilitating communication and the movement of goods.
2. Technology Transfer:Certain colonial powers introduced modern technology to Africa, contributing to improvements in some economic sectors.
3.Expansion of Education: Some areas experienced an expansion of education under colonial rule, with the establishment of educational systems.
4. Agricultural Development: Certain colonial administrations improved agricultural techniques and introduced new crops, leading to economic advancements.
5.Establishment of Governmental Institutions: During the colonial period, some governmental institutions were established, providing basic services to the population.
-The thing that people complain about most is the borders they have drawn. Africa is full of nationalities and tribes that hate each other. This is what it would have looked like if the borders had not been demarcated.

Somalia wasn't colonized the way other African states were. The Europeans used our ports to resupply and control the traffic towards India and China. However somali society wasn't greatly distributed.
That being said I do think colonialism did more damage to our development of a uniformed society. Had the Europeans not turned up we'd have beaten the Ethiopians and a dynasty would've risen to rule over all somalis. Much like the unification of Japan, Somalia might have developed its own emperor of the horn. However the arrival of colonial forces destabilized this possible outcome and led to more decentralized states.
Stuff like technology and education can be easily picked up by people. Let's not forget that Africans took to the gun quickly. The somalis could've picked up on these things had they developed a more centralized state. You can see by the map you post among all the tiny states each ethnic group would have, the somalis take a good chunk and it'd be easier to meld them together.
Colonialism cause more issues than it fixed, we still feel it's ramifications to this day. However for our future we must come to terms with what has happened, the Europeans fucked our boarders but we must work with what we've got. Build for the future because only then can the wounds of the past begin to heal.
