Boys:

Samatar
Xirsi
Keenadiid
Calin

Girls:

-Mother's name-
Asili
Idil
Degan

Though I'd honestly tell my wife that if she simply leaves me be to name our first girl after my mother I wouldn't mind her naming every other child.

Boys
Geesi, Warsame, Cilmi, Tawfiiq, Tahiil, Tadalesh

Girls
Canab, Xoriyo, xidig, Waris, Sagal, Jawaahir, Asli and Afraxo

One thing is certain: my children will be given Somali names.

There are many Somalis out there that do not give their children Somali or Arab names. They give them Persian, Afghan, Pakistani, Balkan, Malay etc names when the child is full Somali. I know a few cases of this

Thats a lie, there aren't many do that at all. You're mentioning random ethnicities, who they don't take names from.

Most Somalis either give their children religious Muslim Arabic names or Somali traditional names.

One interesting observation made of Somalis is that they a lot of times give their kids dual names and one Arabic/Muslim name and One Somali traditional or Somali nickname . Noticed they will refer to them by Somali traditional names, like Liban and call them Ahmed in another breath

It's not a lie at all. A lot have given their children non Somali/Arabic names.

You just said most Somalis have Arabic or Somali names. How about the tiny remainder? Exactly. It's going to be from other places like Muslim countries.

They don't , it's very rare. You're deliberately BS'in ppl on this thread.

The Arab names most of them have are Muslim names, because we are Muslim and a few non-Muslim arabic ones is from cultural contact.

Those other random ethnicities we have zero close relations to or cultural contact with. A Somali with a Balkan name? GTFOH :mjlol:

I wouldn't mind keep with the tradition and give my kids mix of Muslim/Arabic names and Somali cultural names.

I like these names
Boys:
Raage
Yusuf
Shirdoon
Ahmed
Abdullahi
Warsame
Bile

Girls:
Basma
Hodan
Suban
Ilhan
Bilan
Canab

It's not very rare at all. Some Millennial Somalis have done it. There are some Somalis named Baarlin and Istanbuul and Yurub and Istaarliin. How do you explain those names? Somalis are influenced by foreigners. Did I make those up too?

Baarlin is a Somali traditional cultural female name, not to be confused with Berlin the city. It was actually clarified in another thread:
Lmaao you are right it actually is a real Somali female name. I had to look it up just to be sure

Baarliin name-f - lime colored eyelashes ; she whom her eyelashes are lime - colored at birth

Well i stand corrected.

Never seen anyone or heard a Somali with names like Istanbuul , Yurub, or Istaarliin etc. Probably some extended internet gag ur repeating

There are Somalis named Yurub and Istaarliin and Istanbuul. Anyone can confirm that. So because you never met a Somali named those names, it's an internet gag? And I said people named those other names after their own friends or artists. It's a thing.

Funny how you included Baarlin and it turned out be Somali name :pachah1: It's a forum gag

You're dragging it and can't show me one real example.

Funny how I can include another name you can dispute: Falastiin. All of these are names Somalis use today, albeit rare, but still used.

Reply back to me when you can show me a real example of that and i'll be amazed. It's not rare, it doesn't happen at all.

No, they do actually exist. You just haven't stumbled upon Somalis with those type of names.

Even back home, foreign influences seem to be gaining traction. Now that Turkey have gotten closer to Somalia, Erdogan have become a relatively popular name.

No i haven't stumbled upon Somalis with those names, but i have stumbled upon this internet gag before it was around the name Baarlin being Berlin the city and then people dragged the gag. Just like you and Abdifreedom is doing right now

This isnt about Baarlin and you know it. You need to accept that you were wrong, show some humility, and get over it. It's not serious. There are Somalis that have non-Somali/non-Arabic names. Big deal.

It's increasing getting more common among the younger Somali crowd to give their children a 'unique' name, irrespective of its origin. And it's not frowned up either among Somalis. I've even seen a Somali kid called Reign :kanyehmm:

I know a few examples of unique names but @Idilinaa will probably start calling me names if I did. But yes, I find it weird how Somali traditionalists don't care about children having weird unique names. They let it slide. My cousin named his son a very unique name and his religious mother wasn't phased by it.
