to put on weight after they finish school or get married. Most of the chicks who go to unis in hargeisa have great bodies. They’re very slim with small perky breasts, round futo and attractive faces. older xalimos look a lot different and their bodies are unaesthetic.

It's not only Somalia that has this problem, our Berber cousins of the Sahara (Mauritania) are well known for their fattening culture, but now things are slowly changing thanks to the internet & TV etc:

Somalis do not have a force feeding culture nor are Mauritanians their cousins.

What this is, is a shift in beauty standards. My great grand mother's generation had to maintain their shape even shortly after child birth.

Back home, fat women are usually preferred over slimmer women, however there is no force feeding culture like in Mauritania.

P.S. Somalis and Mauritanian Berbers are related, so it wouldn't be inaccurate to refer to them as "cousins".

Back home like in many developing African nations obesity is prized especially when it's an indicator of wealth and the capacity for one to survive during food shortages.

I also gave you a historical perspective of what was expected of Somali women in the North West particularly Gadabursi women (as I'm not sure about maintaining ones figure post-children was important to other tribes and it would be assumptive if I were to say it were universal). As some Somali customs are highly regional. And there are some micro-cultural variations.

We do not consider closer groups like Ethiopians cousins. So, using the term on groups with more remote connections doesn't make sense.

Agreed. Overall, i think beauty standards will slowly change back home thanks to the internet & TV e.g. since more people back home will learn about the health implications regarding obesity & so forth.

As for the whole cousin thing...it really depends on personal perspective, since i also consider Ethiopians/Eritreans closer cousins.

It’s because girls back home don’t really workout nor have time to once they get married they’re usually the ones shouldering all the responsibility of the household and kids

Guys back home are super lazy

It's the carbohydrate heavy diet. In the morning they eat canjeero and very sugary tea, in the afternoon it's either baasto or barris with a little meat, and for dinner they may have sabayaad along with a little protein. So you see, every meal is way too much carbs. And women will drink sugar somali tea at least 4x a day...That's why you see all these obese women waddling around. If you marry, put your wife on a low-carb, keto diet. she'll not gain weight and will have a lot of energy during the daytime

They are not our cousins, we have nothing to do with some random desert group living on the other side of Africa.
