its a well knkwn fact immigrants usually out performance natives due to the fact they have their backs against the wal inthe new nation,

Somalis are not migrants to Kenya, in fact they are a native Kenyan community.

Those Kenyans are salty as fvck. Kenyan Somalis were not an economic success because the government in power then placed restrictions on their movements, quotas were in place for post secondary schooling etc. However, this does not negate the contribution the "Somali wave" of people after the onset of the civil war.
NFD was always linked economically, culturally and in all faucets of life with the skinnies in Xamar. Once the violence flaired up, that link was curtailed and thus began the organic process of joining the "main stream" Kenyan economy.
Once Somalis got to Kenya, they didn't sit on their tails but hit the ground running. The business community then were mostly the Kenyan Indian community with little participation from the natives Kenyans. However, this tiin chileec community had a business model that was more suited for life in 1900s , not the 2000s plus they grew complacent.
Faraaxs and xalimos got into the game and using the patented "Somali advantage" (pooling of capital, integrated supply chain, focusing on quick turnover rather than profit maximization, incorporating the native Kenyans and extending credit to them et.al), they quickly took over.
If corruption is something they want to focus on, Kenya has always been corrupt and it wasn't something introduced to them by Somalis. Skinny pirates got really good at cutting through the bureaucratic red tape of the Kenyan state apparatus in order to do get their goods through the ports, getting business licenses and permits etc.
When it comes to the Kenyan army, the Sijuus make a sizeable population of the officers class because the former president Moi was actually kept from being over thrown by a Kenyan Somali colonel then who ended up being a general and a chief of staff in charge of the army from the mid 80s until his retirement in the 2000s. Old man Moi was smart enough to realize that the geel jire has no horse in the Bantus vs. Nilotes fight and thus decided to placate himself with mostly his own kinfolk Kalenjins (Those skinny marathon runners we are all see on telly) and Somalis. All in all, if any civil strife were to happen, the Bantus wouldn't be able to inflict much damage with their machetes and most waryas (as Somalis in Kenya are termed, not dearly) are strapped or have their biir at home.
Sorry for the long post but no amount of duuso from diaspora Kenyans who leave the country as international students and only to drop out school to shack with a fat becky for sharci whilst working at a warehouse, end up visiting their land and see successful Somalis. I'l be salty as f*ck if I got home and see the place in full grip of the Somali husters. The local Kenyans know though, cause Somalis have allowed them (with limits ,of course) to participate in this new business environment.

Somalis in Kenya got opportunities in mid to late 2000s. They did not only get grip on the economy, thanks to the Indian arrogance and underestimating Somalis, they got a better chance at education. From those who graduated 2008 to 2011 at Garissa high school, I personally know over 10 who went to medical school and are practicing now. Compare that to when I was in high school all teachers used to talk about only one guy who made it to medical school.

The only reason Kenya is better off than most African countries is because of their large European population. They kept the wealth in the country instead of exploiting it, similar to South Africa.
