We should never have left Somalia

Getting into the diaspora was the greatest mistake our people did. It would have been better for us to have lived and died in Somalia.

No. Leaving Somalia was the best thing our people did. Cooping up inside a country with an echo chamber of problems is what led us to this point in time. Unlike you, I've gained a much better understanding of how things work in the world, and it is something I simply would never have gained if I was born in Somalia. This goes for all those who are in the Diaspora. How many different languages can Somalis speak as of today?

Japan tried to close it's borders and the Europeans forced them to open up. Within a couple of decades they became a powerhouse. China was also forced to open up it's borders by European colonizers and now look at the hold it has on the world. Isolationism is the downfall of all cultures and individuals while open-mindedness leads to success and opportunity.

Japan was totally isolated, no one could get in or out. That's not what i mean, walal. I mean we Somalis shouldn't have fled Somali en masse.

If you're talking about immigration, i'm not saying ''close the borders'', i'm saying most Somalis should have staid in Somalia. We're a diaspora of millions.

Ok, why should we not have left Somalia bro?

1) Brain drainage, hurts the country even more.

2) Loss of manpower and population, our neighbouring countries are already our population many times over, when would we be able to regain Soomaaliweyn if we're the minority? how should we defend our country.

3) Loss of workforce

4) Somalis will assimilate in their new countries after a few generations. You can already see how westernized Somalis in the diaspora is, and most of us are first generation or second generation immigrants. Imagine 5-6th generation Somali? this is not to talk about Somalis who marry ajnabis

5) Detachment from homeland. Loss of culture, language, Somali ways to think.

Somalia is in hard times, but we should just have staid, fight the war, and rebuilt the ashes. Nothing comes easy, but together we have a chance.

Because a country is built by it's people. Why became a beggar in another mans country?

I agree. But people are different. They come in many forms, with different cultures and ideas. Our culture, and our ideas are not those that build countries, but sows division between it's people. Maybe our generation can rebuild our country or maybe not. But I firmly believe leaving was the best choice a lot of Somalis made.

1) Valid point, but now we have millions of Diaspora kids who have grown up in the west with western ideas. This is a valuable asset.

2) Again, valid point, but in this day and age, let me draw your attention to the country of Israel, a small nation that is surrounded by Arab countries and time and time again who have thwarted their advances. Yes they have had the help of America, because it is in a strategic place in the world and is the perfect counterbalance to the Arabs. Somalia is the perfect counterbalance to both Ethiopia and Kenya from gaining hegemony over the horn of africa as they are ours. Manpower doesn't win political influence or domestic influence anymore, but strategic deployment does. Besides if babies is what we want, this should be no problem with a few decades.

3) Point 2.

4) Every culture assimilates in the west. That is not something you can fight.

5) Again valid points. Do you have an idea on how to go back home?

If we had stayed, we would have been a backwater country. We have millions of kids growing up in Western countries that have access to knowledge that isn't available back home. If our people in Somalia could put aside their petty disagreements, do you really believe all those kids wouldn't rush back home to benefit their country?

Somalis back home are hard workers with a good upbringing and have good attitudes towards life(mostly), they just need more job opportunities and a good diet but they have a good outlook on life especially the younger generations, even if u look at the most wealthiest Somalis they were most likely straight out of Somalia. However the ones in the west, instead of building up our image with all the opportunities they were gifted added the most damage to our image and at this point in my opinion it’s irreversible.:francis:

It's best to focus on the present and how we can contribute to our homeland by what we learned in our host countries. The future is bright for Somalia inshallah :)

Go back on the next plain you can afford unless you disagree with @OP. Keep saving towards a one way ticket till you can afford it, unless you disagree or can't afford the next plane ticket
