We have to be brutally honest with ourselves

Sounds like pure projection to me. You’ll find people all over the world using Somalia as a punchline to mask their own failures when in reality, Somalia is often more peaceful, more functional, and delivers services better than many of the very countries doing the mocking.

Look at that video: politicians from Lebanon, Uganda Iraq, India, even Gaza, all invoking “don’t become like Somalia” while their own nations grapple with chaos, corruption, poverty, lack of services and instability/war that in many cases is worse than what they claim to condemn. It’s almost funny if it wasn’t so transparent.

As I pointed out in another thread:
Well said.

Let me show you how absurd it looks when other African countries try to belittle Somalia as a "failed state" when in reality, Somalia is outperforming them in many critical areas.

Remember that Kenyan parliament member who called Somalia a failed state? A Somali MP fired back and gave him a much needed reality check:
In fact, rural Somalia today has better electricity access than some Kenyan towns. People in Mandera, Kenya, literally cross the border to Somalia to charge their phones, get water, and buy cold drinks.
(As even a Kenyan MP himself admitted , imagine how embarrassing that is.)

The MP says : "The people of Mandera town are going to get water, cold drinks and charge their phones in another country (Somalia).'' ''It's not a failed state in terms of Power. They are doing their things much better and organized. How do we have power in Bulahara but we don't have power in Mandera town?"
This just shows the lack of accountability and the tendency to deflect. When other Africans mention Somalia like this, it’s rarely about facts , it’s about masking their own national failures. Many suffer from a deep inferiority complex. They see themselves as beneath Asians, Arabs, and Whites, so they soothe themselves by imagining Somalia is worse off.
But imagine thinking you're superior while being unable to provide your population with basic services like water and electricity. That alone exposes a backwards mindset:

This is the key difference: Somalis think forward and. Whilst their mindset is stuck on yesterday and satisfied with bare minimum.

Somalia will have 80% electrician rate at the end of this year.

Despite having states in power uninterrupted by external forces and decades of large foreign investments. , they are still lagging behind

Their minds are too occupied with imagining Somalia as being beneath them to actually fix their own countries. They blame leadership, but Somalia made progress without full state support.

So what's their excuse?

You don’t even have to take my word for it, here are foreigners who actually know Somalia speaking on it:

You can’t have low crime rates, functioning community self-governance, or a private sector that delivers services without law and order.

Even in the aftermath of 1991, Somalia was not entirely lawless. The northeastern regions established their own administrations, while Mogadishu and its surroundings set up governing Sharia courts. The union that brought these courts together was formed in 1999.

Again, you don’t have to hear it from me:

That’s the problem with cherry picking the worst opinions from foreigners. Somalis should tell their own story instead of constantly reacting to and weaponizing what others say or think about us. We only weaken ourselves that way.

Trust me, none of these outsiders care about “Puntland First” or “Somaliland independence.” Fighting your own brother for their approval will only be your undoing. Do you think Iraqis, Lebanese, Indians, or anyone else waits to hear what Somalis think of them before deciding whether to support their own people? Are they running clips of Hassan Sheikh calling Iraq a failed state and India a s-hole? Of course not.

The future of the Somali people lies in our mutual uplift, cooperation, and shared prosperity.

In that spirit, Somalia has made remarkable progress in just a few short years driven by the resilience and determination of its own people:
