Yes, Somalis are a warlike people that often quarrel amongst each other violently that's not new. That's is part of the identity it's not the whole thing but it's an undeniable piece of the puzzle. What's not clicking here? In fact It's an age old foreign policy since colonial times to exploit this well known trait. I don't know if you need me to pull wiki pages or something. Yep, because even if you get independence people will always associate it with Somalia. Similar to the way the average non educated non Sudani can’t even be bothered to differentiate between North Sudan and South Sudan despite the populations from each side looking vastly different and have different religions because well duh, the name is the same. Yet, naive Somalilanders believe that they will be seen as different to Somalia when not only do they look the same, have the same religion and language but also share the same name . So I ask these embarrassing Landers who like to say they’re the ‘good Somalis’ what makes them think that if the world can’t even be bothered to tell the difference between a North Sudani and a South Sudani who look completely different, why on earth would they be able to tell the difference between an Abdi from Somalia and an Abdi from SL?

They chose it because their legal argument is that they reverted back to the State of Somaliland that was independent for 5 days. What I think really ruined their name was the creation of Puntland then Jubaland. Then they just became another state, another 'land'.

SL should change their name to Isaaqia since its actual influence would be limited to 2 regions (Togdheer and Waqooyi Galbeed) which are predominantly inhabited by isaaqs. Awdal, Sanaag and Sool would be under the authority of the Federal Government of Somalia.
