its so ridiculous to even imply that the somali crime issue (gangs) in the west is a cultural one when outside the west, somalis are rarely associated with crime. None of our diaspora communities in Asia or in Africa are associated with crime. Everywhere else in the world we have a low involvement in crime

Our. Culture stigmatises gang life and uses the term ciyaalsuuq which is more than i see with black americans and uks. Here they glorify it with "trapping" and "being on road" whilst my mum barely let me out of the house

Other ajaanib cultures dont glorify crime and gang life the way the west does so somalis dont do crime there. The west needs to learn if you dont strike hard on these people they will never stop But the population has been brainwashed into making sharci islaamiga the boogeyman to always point at when problem increases. When criminals being let loose so easily the others criminals will see that this fuley government does not care about upholding justice and they will do more crime

Somali communities, on the other hand, maintain a low-crime profile across Asia and Africa often respected as traders, students or hardworking residents.. their challenges in the West are largely environmental and situational rather than cultural.

It's a form of selection bias the environment in the Gulf creates. Countries like the UAE effectively don't have refugee programs or anything like that. Whatever they do sometimes take in is so low it's pretty much non-existent. The only way you can live in those countries is:

• You own a business or have a significant investment in the country
• You are employed by a legitimate and registered business in the country
• You are employed by the government

That's pretty much it. Only avenues for having a visa. They deport you otherwise and even if you somehow stayed as an illegal it would be a tough life as no high-paying legitimate businesses would hire you and there's no social safety net for non-citizens whatsoever or concepts like homeless shelters. You'd be torturing yourself and pulling off the books slave labor-like wages.

So all the Somalis in the Khaleej, particularly in the UAE, Qatar, Oman and Kuwait which I'm more privy to tend to be either well-off business people, educated working professionals or at least dudes and women who are hustling and working in some way (off the books Somali community taxi-drivers who have another low-paying job, girls who work as housekeepers for Somali households exclusively while pretending to be a niece staying with them etc). Growing up most of the kids I grew up with's parents were cops, doctors, dentists, small-business owners, wealthy business tycoons back in Somalia/Somaliland who wanted their families nearby and the like.

Very different strata of Somali society from refugees in the west.

Unless for some reason all the criminal Somalis went abroad, perhaps there’s another issue? Maybe it’s because the diaspora is disproportionately young and we all know young men in particular are crime factories. Maybe it’s because Somalis in the west are predominantly impoverished working class refugees who therefore live in low income high crime neighbourhoods (hood/ghetto/council estate) and attend those schools? Maybe that might play a role? Maybe half the diaspora being <22 might help? Anyway, Somali kids we’ve seen are massively improving in academics, both boys and girls, more and more are going into university and stable jobs and earning income. Inshallah, we will be having a rich and prosperous country.

The area you're raised in absolutely matters. Literally, a large majority of the guys I went to high school with in my neighborhood didn't attend college after we graduated. Only the Mexicans in my neighborhood joined the trades immediately after graduating. For everyone else, only a few joined the military, and the rest just started working random jobs or they started scamming/drug dealing. Only me and a few other Africans in my neighborhood went straight to college.

upbringing plays a big role in how young men turn out. A majority of the men graduating from colleges with great degrees had educated parents who raised them to take school seriously. A majority of the young men who joined the trades right after high school had family members who worked in the trades. Even in the military, many young soldiers have a family member who also served.
A lot of our criminals had parents who didn't raise them to survive here in the West. Many of these parents had no idea how to do this.

I've said it on here before, but I truly believe some of our young men stood no chance here in the West. I'd say the same thing for some Somali women as well.

We have discussed it before on a recent thread I saw but many of our parents had no idea how to survive in the West and struggled to adapt their parenting to a place that tbh requires intensive parenting to survive due to how much worse the influence is. I know it was the same with my parents certainly (mum was not raised by her parents and my father lost his dad at 14). What saved my parents was that we lived in a middle class area so the corrosive social influences were tempered.

???? What planet are you on? Have you not been reading about all the SEAsians being deported by ICE because they’re criminals? They’re literally over represented in prison. They participate in human/sex trafficking, gang violence, drug dealing etc like wtf are you even talking about.
