We should consider growing halophytes in our coastal wadis. We have steep valleys and dry river beds on our coasts that can be closed off and flooded salt water. Halophytes grow in salt water and it can be used as food and fodder. Sheep and goats are able to consume halophytes and it should be explored as an alternative fodder crop. It can take a burden off our land that's fragile and needs to be restored, habits can be saved. You can also integrate shrimp farms and use the wastewater as a natural fertilizer to grow the crop. It can create jobs in coastal Puntland all the way from Bari to Nugaal.
