A trend amongst a very specific group in urbanhubs doesnt equal an epidemic nor does it mean people are selfhating lol. You can go to any big city in Somalia and the vast majority of women are brown/dark skin. Try again

I feel like a lot of Somali women on here are being dishonest when they say there is no self-hatred among Somali women. Yes, a lot of Somali women are in fact dark-skinned back home but that isn't proof that Somali women don't have insecurities surrounding their skin complexion. From what I heard, maintaining light skin isn't very easy through bleaching. The creams must be continuously used over and over again for the skin-lightening effect to remain. Maybe Somali women who don't bleach simply think it's not worth the money and the health concerns.

If there were a more safe, permanent, and cheap way to bleach then a lot of Somali women in Somalia would turn into ghosts over night. I see way too many of these FOB chicks using skin-lightening filters online to not think otherwise. I've even see them use these creepy filters on their own children. It's a shame but a lot of Somali women back home, specifically the ones who are active on social media, find no beauty in dark skin.

It doesn't even stop at skin color, Somalis in Somalia also don't like women being thin which has lead to thin Somali women taking fattening pills. There was even a BBC video about it.

Man, I hate seeing people I agree with get dogpiled. You're not totally wrong, you just got outnumbered because these girls are thinking about younger Somali women in the Western diaspora. In Somalia's populous cities, it's very easy to find skin-lightening products in stores. If there wasn't a market for it then how come it's there?
