War in Sool

Isaaq lost 2 technicals and an ambulance as a result of the last skirmish, but that does not matter in the grand scheme.

Isaaq must regain Las Anod before any negotiations or the calling of any ceasefire. Regaining Las Anod requires vastly more resources than it did 2 months ago, or even a month ago, due to the growth of the opposing force.

Two changes have taken place in Sool since Dec 2022. Nothing else that has happened matters in the long term.

1. Isaaq vacated Las Anod assuming they would have the military wherewithal to retake it at a later point in time. This was proven to be a mistake when they couldn't retake the city on Feb 6. SSC forces had become too large to be driven from the city.
2. Isaaq were then placed under pressure at Tukaraq, and on Feb 26 had to retreat in the face of greater force all the way to Goojacade.

The Isaaq have been unable to reverse these two strategic changes in Sool. If the status quo persists, this is a massive defeat for the Isaaq.

Harti are simply too large a clan to be permanently subdued by Isaaq, which is now smaller in population. Already Harti is ~15% larger than Isaaq. The problem is that we are poorly organized, and lack the revenue of the Berbera-Wajaale corridor.

Luckily for Harti, Somali warfare is based on simple and cheap weapons that we are able to buy in equal quantities to Isaaq. The AK 47, PKM, Toyota LC70, RPG, ZU 23 etc.. are all cheaply available across the Indian Ocean.

Unless Isaaq somehow build a navy capable of blockading Harti’s 1,400 km coastline, this conflict will continue. If it continues, it favors Harti as we have time on our side.
