I believe it was begun late 60s but has transitioned a few times.

Regardless we tried joining in Kacaan era and also 2012, and Farmaajo is said to have tired too. So many unsuccessful attempts.

We are lucky our stars have aligned this time with friendly Presidents in all the member states

They haven't expressed any aspirations in joining EAC yet.

From my impression, they seem to want to do their own thing with closer ties and cooperations with Somalia, Kenya, Djibouti, Sudan and Eritrea.

Done deal! Tanzania has agreed to vote for Somalia who were the potential holdouts. Some agreement was struck that Tanzania can bring in Zambia if Somalia is brought in

Well, at some point in the next few decades Somalis will pour out into Kenya/Tanzania when the countries resource limit is reached. Better to have some form of connection to enable easier movement. It's literally impossible for Somalis to make meaningful economic gains as long as population growth is so high
