video from the Nugal region shows that much of the water flows unused to the Indian Ocean

This makes me mad, we cry about Drought and water for Livestocks, to the point that Clans fight over water holes, but when their is Rain there is no real effort to collect as much rain water.

We need Water Treatment Facilities, and pipes that redirect all the rain water.

Look at how they build a pond and changed the way the area looks, they Did it 3 Months

We need way more of these basically.

Easy low tech method for dry land restoration is by digging ‘Bunds’

Along with creating ponds & better water catchment systems thousands of these should be dug

As we build several dams around Somalia, I believe there is a possible answer t0 this issue. I believe it would be beneficial to construct at least one large dam at each end of Somalia's streams/estuaries so that we do not lose water to the ocean and evaporation and instead retain enough water to seep into the ground and become underground reserves, with the ground acting as a reserve that we can dig up later on through wells and properly utilize. This is merely a basic method that is preferable to losing all of the water to the ocean or evaporation and having only a little portion of it go into the ground. If we can successfully stop the flow at the stream's end, we may have enough water to settle and seep into the ground, because it is difficult for flowing water to seep into the ground in large volumes, particularly if the area does not receive continuous water flow, as the southern rivers do.

That is just a well-done Balli:dead1: and the water will evaporate we need actual methods of retaining at least SOME water. Biyoole's Idea is short-term because the solution is affected by both human use and evaporation with nothing going into the ground as I can see they've put a sheet on the bed of the balli. Somalia recieves more than enough rain its just not utilised well enough we also do not use our underground reserves enough.

This is beautiful and If I'm not mistaken this was a Kenya-started project. we should Implement this in Galmudug, Puntland and Somaliland to regreen.

The importance is recycling water also, that's what most countries do, every water drop needs capturing thru pipe-line and sent back to water supplier to treat and re-use in towns. Water either underground or rain or sea are not unlimited and have limits.

We must learn how to harness 'drip technology' for farming so underground water source isn't exhausted. We must recycle water thru pipelines in cities and towns. We need to live sustainably with water and ensure 'savings' is our priority.

I had a ‘Drought Mitigation Strategies’ thread which used to be a sticky until they removed it from there for some reason
