Using the Quran to boost Somali literacy

I remember in history class once, i was taught that the reason literacy rates were so high in places like Germany was because they encouraged their people to read the bible.
So whilst the teacher was waffling, i was thinking if we could apply this to Somalia and use a Somali translation of the Quran to boost our literacy rate and also make people learn more about Islam. Higher literacy rates could also expose people back home to much more ideas and make people more aware possibly leading to a rebirth in Somali nationalism.

What are your thoughts on this?

i bet more than 99% of somalis can both write and read arabic. it's just that we are kinda retarded and don't bother with tafsir, but if we did i feel every somali could read, write, and speak arabic. Which is pretty good imo

This. I think the reason why ethiopia has a better literary tradition than us was because their bible was translated to their native language, meanwhile most Somali scholars had to be fluent in both Somali and Arabic.
