Could be I never asked their tribe. The first one he didnt introduce to us (only pics and Facetime) and the second one when we'd talk it was casual everyday stuff nothing too deep. She did mention once when I asked about the wedding and her family that it was just her mother and siblings and that her father was a corrupt general in the military in Sudan so they're not close. I always feel awkward asking people their tribes but should probably start, you learn more.
