You are usually only "at it alone" if you reject these assistance programs or don't bother to improve the situation you're facing (i.e. not actively applying to jobs or attending classes).

Also, the bulk of companies that hire you remotely provide you with any technology and tools you need (with the majority of employees already equipped with desks, chairs, and peripherals that they feel comfortable with) to get the job done, with health care usually being attached to those jobs.
