@Araabi while I think that the fact that China/Russia will veto admission of Somaliland to the UN, like they have in the other UDI case that is Kosovo, it is the fact that Woqooyi is severely fractured on the question of secession that is the biggest obstacle imo.
Take a look at these results for the independence referendums of Eritrea in 1993 and South Sudan in 2011. Both were conducted under UN observation and were certified to be free and fair.

How does some meeting of unelected ragtag militiamen and unelected clan leaders 31 years later in Burco annul what those 33 democratically elected MPs decreed?
The US will not touch this with a ten foot pole.

Somaliland returning to it's 1960 borders is inevitable. Then Italian Somaliland can focus on it's problems. Isolated communited in eastern Somaliland won't stop reality imposing itself.
