Why is that?

Cause it's much more difficult to get to the US.
While Uk has accepted more low skilled workers from Africa and Asia, the USA accepted mostly educated Africans and Asians.
West africans in the USA are a "model minority" and have one of the highest percentage of people who have college degrees, they perform much better than white people. In America the average nigerian is either a doctor or some kind of engineer. To be honest west africans tend to do very good even in the UK.
The real difference is between the EU(germany,sweden,italy, spain,france ecc) and the USA. Europe has more low skilled immigrants while US attracts well educated african and asians, The Uk is probably between the EU and the USA as it tends to have both high skilled immigrants and low skilled workers.
