Unukaa leh languages

The Arabic gets worse in the north. A lot of people are tryna force Arabic down our throats. Some Somalis will say eryga sharaab unukaa leh, some won’t even acknowledge the Somali words we have and will use Arabic instead. Let’s talk about the shaqsi nebeed within the community. There is no kalsooni, I’m using specific Somali words because waxaan waa ceeb. It’s actually making me cringe just thinking about it

Even more misplaced priorities. You guys complain about the wrong things
omg yeah, i legit sometimes laugh when i read posts like this. it's like they don't know the concept of borrowed words.
Misplaced priorities. Every language has loan words and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Misplaced priorities? My stomach is full, my homework is done, and I’m kicking back watching Netflix. And for the two other users who ran with what @Based said, try to be a little more original next time and maybe I can quote you one at a time :mjlaugh:

Loan words only work when you don’t have a specific word for something. Somali is an old language, instead of stealing words from other ethnicities we should linguistically study and research data on the Somali language. When I listen to poetry in Af Somali I hardly understand anything. Especially when the vocabulary is old Somali. I believe the Somali language is more advanced than we were taught to believe.

There is no such thing borrowed word
Somali scholars should delete non somali words from somali language and add only pure somali words
There is a Somali word for everything even modern words like fan and television. We can also put two words together to create another and they should be taught in schools. We should have spellingbees throughout the country. We did it before we can do it again. The constant isnaceyb within the community must be addressed

You know many languages like Persian, Turkish and so on have arabic loanwords, probably even more than af somali? Also all languages borrow words, English has many French loanwords, Russian has Greek loanwords and so on. It is impossible to have only "pure" somali words in your vocabulary.

The difference is with those languages is they know those words are borrowed. Some Somalis will tell a borrowed word is Somali lol

Nothing is true; everything is permitted

Somalia is universally known as the worst country in the world but according to you, the use of foreign loan words is far more ceeb and destructive. Poor Somalis are starving as we speak i doubt the way we say sharaab will change anything. Always crying about the wrong things.

The funny thing is that's not true. Most English people don't know that 30% of their words are from French. I mean words like judge, justice, peasant and so on are French but the normal English speaker wouldn't know that and think that these are original English words. In fact English has more French loanwords than somali has arabic ones.

They teach those things in school. We’ve learned at a young age that a lot of the words we use today were borrowed from other languages, even in science class we were taught the origin of some words that were Arabic.

There is no Somalia saxib, what are you on about? The country is a colonial milking center. While you work and pay taxes to your adopted western country, that same country is dumping toxic waste on your shores and destabilizing your country. The British never left, the Americans never lost. If we can’t preserve the country we might as well preserve the language.

It is wrong just because others have doesnt mean we should it is lile saying if someone steal something others should steal 2
Lol You can’t “steal” a language. Every single spoken language on the planet has loanwords and there’s nothing wrong with that. As long as civilizations and different people groups interact with each other (Trade, TV films, migration, colonialism etc) loanwords will naturally exist and it will only grow as languages are meant to evolve with the passing of time.

You probably say xabxab instead of Qare. That’s not called borrowing words that’s called abandoning an already indigenous word. I don’t say beans because I don’t eat cambuulo, I say cambuulo because I know it’s an authentic Somali word lol

Apparently it’s due to trade that we’ve adopted these words but it’s not a two way street. Why are you the only one adopting loanwords, why haven’t your colleagues done the same? Iscabeyb is a serious condition, you must accept who you are before you can accept what you are. But they won’t listen to us anyways lol

Using your logic, English speakers have “abandoned” their words for using French words instead of authentic English words of Germanic roots? Arabic speakers have “abandoned” their words for using Turkish, Syriac, Coptic etc loanwords instead of authentic Arabic words with semitic roots?

You don’t see how ridiculous this sounds? It’s ok to have loanwords, there’s nothing wrong with it as every language has loanwords.
