Not all bad news;Kudos to HSM he is seriously getting us closer lifting up the Arms embargo. In a sense next year will be a testing period.

Edit:
It seems UN has decided to lift the arms embargo step by step. HSM has won the confidence of the international community.

As you can see below, it is the demand to seek approval from the sanctions committee that the UK and other Westerners were using to cripple the Somali government's efforts to acquire weapons. So in this instance, all of that UK representatives did was they wrote the resolution in a way that avoids both Chinese and Russian vetos.

When Abdisaid M Ali (shown below) was the national security adviser to former President Farmaajo, he lobbied very hard to have the sanctions lifted. Turkey was ready to equip the Somali National Army, but at the same time Turkish firms wanted to avoid being sanctioned by UNSC. The Sanctions Committee was repeatedly asking for clarifications of the weapons purchases. And sometimes, their responses were taking for a very long time.

The Somali government repeatedly complained about the approval process, and that approval process is still intact.

Let us get real though: Hassan Sheekh Mohamud has not done anything tangible to alleviate the arms embargo from Somalia. It was the work of the previous government who consistently lobbied the US, Russia, and China to alleviate,, if not lift the arms embargo from Somalia. All of the proper weapons management started under the Farmaajo-led govt - to the credit of Abdisaid Muse Ali, President Farmaajo, General Odowaa, and PM Hassan Ali Khayre.

Here is the Somali ambassador Abukar Dahir Osman protesting the unfair continuation of the arms embargo on Somalia.

@Abaq it seems Somalia is in a chicken and egg scenario - do we need to unite under one government first to make us all be peaceful or we have to all be peaceful first to unite under one government?

there would be no AMISOM larp or 20 years of AS if the Somali government was rightfully equipped under AY or SS. Ultimately it’s British and Kenyan refusal to do so that is the main roadblock.

It is not acceptable that Hawiye gets armed and we don't. Either we get our fair share of the weapons or no one gets them
Contribute to the state building process or be left behind. Hawiye and RX are the ones who keep FGS alive. If you don't want to be integrated into the SNA you can only blame your village politicians.

FGS is the legitimate government you lot who think this period of SNA being rag tag militia will keep on have a rude awakening ahead.

FGS is more than HSM or Farmajo, I have no interest bickering about Farmajo. Do you support the partial lifting up of the arms embargo?

Low IQ strikes again! don't arm one clan because they'll kill everyone so let's arm everyone so we can all genocide each other.

When will you folks let the past go and move on. Literally every country goes through this and they all come out on the other side. Look at Rwanda, look at Ethiopia and how the tigrays got absolutely genocided and they are still willing to talk and lay down their weapons, surely Somali people can do the same?

Yes 100%. But the approval process is how UK and EU were using to cripple the weapons purchases and donations coming to SNA. That approval process is still intact. They only accepted of speeding up the time to respond after Russian and Chinese veto threat.

The SNA needs to be integrated force though and constant replacements of the top brass should stop as well. General Odowaa and General Biixi should be allowed to lead this organization without constant interference from Villa Somalia and civilian defense ministers.

I also don't understand why successive Somali governments were signing oil and bogus anti-piracy deals with EU and UK when they're doing everything in their power to cripple the means of the Somali government to rebuild its armed forces. Something is definitely wrong in this picture.

The resolution, which also expresses concern at the continued presence of affiliates of the ISIL (ISIS) group in the Horn of Africa nation, was on Thursday approved by a vote of 11-0, with Russia, China, Gabon and Ghana abstaining in support of the call by the Somali government, backed by the African Union, to lift the arms embargo.

‘Deep dissatisfaction’

Somalia’s UN Ambassador Abukar Osman expressed “deep dissatisfaction” with the extension of the arms embargo, and praised the four countries that abstained for not supporting it.

SNA should be independent and not partake in politics. But HSM is commander in chief. SNA should be based on merit not appointments by the civilians administration. They will answer to commander in chief though.

EU and UK have no long term visions. They are incoherent because they are led by christians and atheists who have different world view. We should be focusing on US and China they tend to have long term plans. EU is irrelevant cess pool of confused folk who take orders from Washington anyways.

Sometimes I ask myself do we have some kind of gene mutations, that's making us act extremely irrational, emotional stupid towards each other & towards our own best interest.
We don't have a problem with foreigners putting us through a hellish conditions collectively. The amount I heard from ex NGO Workers telling me NGOs celebrating whenever a disaster happens, or them creating one by themselves.
One time an aunty told me this NGO that she used to work for asked her to give kids something poisoning that would make them t9 violently vomit & diarrhea, so they can look extremely malnourished for the photos.
Because their annual report for children malnourition was coming and there was important people visiting them.

We don't see that as a problem, but we see every step of a fellow Somali as a hostility.
What kind of screwed up mental illness are we dealing with?

The worst part is all the clans don't want to end this extreme hostility towards each other, none of them wants reconciliation and create a trusted, fair & justice system.
All of them want to act like a bunch of gang groups and never ending beefs, instead of joining 21 century world.

We have plenty of weapons we can reverse engineer why Somalis always begging. North Korea has way more sanctions and they building nuclear weapons that can reach America. If Asians can reverse engineer cadaan tech why can’t Africans and Somalis. If you can’t build weapons you don’t have brains to use them responsibly good idea keeping embargo in place till we civilize

OG aren't stupid. We clearly know the FGS and SNA are Hawiye projects and Eelaay are useful idiots. If MX were too stupid to realise that, then we aren't. I also hope MJ have realised this as well.

Only if OG get their share of all weaponry. But if HAG plan on arming themselves and leaving the rest of us with only AKs, we will lobby to keep the embargo
No offence but OG barely have a say in what goes on in Somalia

So you will be left behind? When SNA acquires drones and tanks and you don't get scholarships to run those equipements just know it was your own choice. Although I know you will cry.

it's punishment from God. Somali people are meant to be punished with their own hands.

no. We will leverage our stakeholders in NFD and Galbeed. For example, currently, Adan Barre Ducale, son of ogaden, is the defense minster of Kenya, meaning if we wanted weapons all we have to do is ask him.

Oh Ogaden are so nice, even though they could get tanks and drones any moment, they rather keep the playing field leveled.
