I wanna make clear one thing, I am not against Turkey investing in Somalia, building hospitals, schools, roads or what ever else development that can benefit Somalia as a nation.. But what I'm against is an unlimited influence which only mostly benefits them, like for example,

1. During development projects all important or lucrative job roles are given to Turkish citizens
2. Turkish products are freely imported and sold in Somalia markets, which will only benefits Turkish companies
3. Turkish companies doing business like Turkish airlines have only Turkish crew and no Somali employees etc..

Yes that's if you are shortsighted, then everything is free.. What you view as free equipment and money is actually an investment capital for Turkey...every penny that's given to Somalia will benefit Turkey both in the long run as well as in the short-term.. You see already,

a. Turkey already controls the airport in muqdisho and the revenue created here already benefits Turkey both directly and indirectly.
b. Turkey controls muqdisho port, another revenue generating key infrastructure another beneficial income for Turkey
c. Turkish import (products) will be dominating on the Somali markets

Now you understand, the aid turkey is giving is just an investment and will be paid back by Somalia, and not only paid back but they'll have monopoly over Somalia to the point where they can dictate the prices etc...just like I've shown you with the Turkish airlines.. Anyway ask yourself how will this benefit Somalia or take us out of the poverty?

Somalia needs a major ally in the MENA region for geopolitical reasons and like it or not, Turkey is the best one.

op is not from the south. the fact is what konfuruans see is turkey giving them scholarships to study and a big hospital in digfeer. if you give that to poor people they wont be hostile to you. op is not konfurian he doesnt know the soft power.

If anyone thinks Turkey is an altruistic power that is in Somalia out of the goodness of their hearts, they’re idiots frankly.

However, Somalia needs the Turkey relationship. No if’s no buts.

Everything you mention is due to Somali incompetence rather than Turkish evil.

Being an ally isn’t being a friend. They’re gonna take advantage of you if you let them. Your job is to either take enough back or hold them back enough to make a fair relationship.

turkish hospital in xamar gave my qaraabo healthcare. my cousins got scholarships to study in turkey. that was more than the african union. so theyre better than our neighbors.

You are shortsighted like most Somalis.. That hospital is not paid by Turkey but Somalia, Turkey will make more than what it has invested in that hospital both in short term and long term.. Just open your eyes and focus beyond your personal sphere and you'll understand.

If you came in and said “The next FGS government needs to make sure Turkey doesn’t take advantage of us, for these reasons xyz.”, I don’t think many people would have a problem.

The problem is that you made this an issue about Somalis back home being ignorant or subservient when many are just grateful.

It’s not the average Somali person or a Turks fault that the government cannot prevent an ally from taking advantage.

Somalia is dirt poor and will take 20 yrs minimum to catch up to even Kenya.

Turkey put Somalia 5 years ahead of where it would have been. And no other country dares to invest in Somalia before Turkey. Not everything is roses but you can’t have it all, at the end of the day the relationship has been a huge net positive for Somalia. And I Turkey still hasn’t even covered it’s cost on all its operations in Somalia.

Somalia is poor in leadership, that I'll acknowledge, the rest I don't agree with..
