This is the case but the parents have to unless they live in the U.K. where they can live off welfare.When Somalis do the dangerous tahriib treck to the diaspora, they end up doing labour, factory work or cleaning..that's the part they don't show on social media. They'd rather do this work in the West than their own homeland.
They still instil this mindset however into their children. My mum has always said doing a manual job is a failure. Hence the extreme dedication to doing STEM courses at Uni.

Will the 2nd gen Somalis in diaspora continue sending money to their parents relatives?
Many gen 1 Somalis who came as adults are beginning to retire over the next decade, I know quite a number older men/women who have decided to go back past 3-4 yrs due to retirement /lower cost of living.
I wonder what the impacts are on the remittance flows. I for one will absolutely not be sending money back home. Occasionally I do send some money but only on the behalf of my mother who would have sent it anyway if I didnβt. But when they pass , no effing way.
