Eritrean press claims that Eritrea will offer port service to Ethiopia with Ethiopian local currency and use the currency to buy services and goods from Ethiopia (e.g. electricity). Ethiopia will then pay the outstanding balance in Dollars to Eritrea. This was in fact the practice of both countries before the Badme war.

Trusting another 3rd world country’s local currency that could depreciation/change at a moment notice doesn’t seem like smart strategy in the long term. Especially since Ethiopia yearly exports are around 5-6b(mostly agricultural). Am I may missing something???

Nonetheless this is an excellent deal for Ethiopia. In fact it’s too good to be true.
I’m positive jibouti ports/train will still be used but where does this leave berbera port??

Through Tigray or Afar region?

Ethiopian birr has suffered alot.Ever since Delaseig was removed.

Secondly for business to flourish Ethiopia should reduce the large taxes it imposes on goods like VAT or Customs tax that has killed Business in the region.Seems like as long as communistic ideologies are being used then the bureaucratic regimes.
