This was one of their BIGGEST chess moves in the ocean battle against Somalia.

They wanted to change the status against Al Shabaab so ALL HUMANITARIAN AGENCIES would be immediately removed from Jubbaland making the bad situation into a hopeless one where only Kenya through KDF exercises total control.

This would also have increased their legitimacy as being in the land to fight a terrorist group in the same group as ISIS.

So for example if Somalia and Kenya really came at each other after the ocean ruling, Kenya would pull the terror card and UN mandate.

Even the UNITED STATES UNDER TRUMP with Mike Pompeo as Secretary of State (look at his history as Congressman---he hasn't seen a Muslim country he didn't want to bomb or isolate) and John Bolton aka the biggest warlord in America as National Security Advisor voted AGAINST Kenya saying existing listing of Al Shabaab is enough and the new designation would only hurt Somalis in the humanitarian front.

Beyond that, it was brought up throughout the process that Al Shabaab relies mostly on charcoal for funding and Kenya should support the sanctions against charcoal exporting from Somalia.

On the diplomatic front, what happened to Kenya is a huge slap in the face.

More than that it was called out for hypocrisy showing how the rest of the world recognizes that this is all a fake show from Kenya.

Take that with the worldwide condemnation of blowing up Hormuud stations along with their shenanigans in the so-called elections in Jubbaland, Kenya has damaged itself strongly where Somalia is concerned on the diplomatic front.
