Reer Mee Phrase.

Reer - Reference to "Family". Reer hebel - so and so family of whatever(insert what you like)

Mee (Aaway)
- Where? This is used when someone is looking for something/someone and they ask others "where?"

The combined phrase of Reer Mee means nosy people or people who frequently ask For or "Where something is".

Best Regards.

Somali Language is very Rich and very Ancient.

The Sun has 8 names. I only know few of them. Those names of the sun refer to a particular time of the day as the Sun travels across the Horizon from people's perspective. Those words for the sun describe the sun, time of day, and condition in one word also. Amazing right?

Interesting. Somalis used to worship the sun in the past, right?

I only know cadceed and qorax, also sagal and one with a b-. Not sure of the differences though haha

I wouldn't know what they worshiped. It is curious they didn't turn to Christianity that predated Islam in east Africa for centuries like their neighbors did but accepted Islam instead. That is amazing to me always. They were monotheists perhaps and Islam appealed to them easily once it came knocking their door. Recall how the Quran teaches to each community a prophet emerged. It was given people would encounter someone who taught them about God. The teachings used to change after time passed and corruption in beliefs became rife. Whatever Somalis believed, Islam became their destiny. Lucky group of people.

Queen Sheba was from East Africa as well. So religion had a presence in that part of the world. Middle east was always a stone throw away.

I also think the many names for the sun is because of using it as time indicator. I can add two more words to what you listed:

Kaliil
, Gabbal

what does arrin mean? like in bila arrin or arimaha?

also for the following: ciil (waa ciil), qarmuun (waa qarmuun), and qudhiisa

Ciil is very unique somali word, that can't be translated. Most people translate it as grudge but grudge means cuqdad. Ciil goes beyond grudge/cuqdad, as it exemplifies state of helplessness.

People in mudug chose cadaab/hellfire over having ciil.

What does iban haraam mean? Google translate tells me it means beard haha
i think you mean inan xaraan. It means the daughter of xaraam. I hope that no one has been calling you that. :kodaksmiley:. Im sorry if you have been undergoing racist treatment.

last one for today: what's the difference between calaacal and canaan?
calaacal means to be angry or disappointed. It can be used interchangeably. cadaan means white. So if someone calls you cadaan, they are calling you a caucasian individual. Which is dumb since you are half asian. :mjlol:
