Your source doesn't even mention anything about Somalis nor does it link to anything about Somalis and post the actual link please. Forget at risk or confirmed this doesn't even mention anything about Somalis.

The profiling is double fold

1. Firstly despite "FGM" being illegal. modifications to the female genitalia still occur albeit under a different name "FGCS" (female genital cosmetic surgeries). In terms of anatomy what's being removed it's still the same, some of the FGCS procedures are more invasive and come under type 2 &4 "FGM" as defined by WHO. FGCS is legal and on the rise while FGM is banned and deemed a violation of women's right

2. Consent issue: When talking about FGM it always portrayed as young girls being "forcefully" cut without their consent and as such the law is the there to protect young girls but this is half of it. According to the FGM law consent is of no importance and as such no non-cadaan adult woman has autonomy over her own genitalia as the law bans her from having any consent. Yet cadaan girls even under the age of 18 have the choice to undergo modification to their genitalia of their liking laakin non-cadaan adult women are barred from having any say over their own body. Are the slogans "my body" "my choice" only for cadaan women and their norms mise ?


To briefly summarise western law currently is incoherent in the way it treats female genital cutting insofar as it is characterized as "FGM" as opposed to "FGCS" , given that the two sets of procedures overlap anatomically and are often performed in similar ways. Despite this similarity one is deemed a mutilation while the other is depicted as a choice undertaken by civilised cadaan women.

I often wonder if any of the non-cadaan women confront their cadaan counterparts for the differential treatment of the two practices when they are campaign against "FGM" ? Their campaigns are causing more problems than they're solving guess who bears the brunt of it ?
