UK Somali teenagers taken 'on holiday' and forced into marriage

Am just saying it aint that big among somalis but it is still done i guess

It’s not as common as other communities, but it still happens. We have a tendancy to shy from hard topics affecting us because “XYZ group does it worst”

:draketf:

Daaqan celis is a whole is a sham. Somali government should shut those institutions down that are abusing the youth. Big difference between visiting homeland and seeing the beauty of our culture VS sending your children to 3rd world camps.

Yeah, there’s crazy camps regulared by crooked imans who promise to teach deen to the kids. Horror stories like getting shackled, beat, sexually abused. They are operated in the baadiyo away from big towns so the kids can’t escape far.

Mogadishu is lit lmao had fun there.

But yeah obviously this isn’t the case for all daqaan celis but it’s sad that parents would even entertain the idea of sending their kids to places like that.

It’s a failure of parenthood. The boys taken home have all shown problems with schooling, juvenile delinquency and contact with the police and criminal justice system. But many of the girls are returned back (married forcefully) have been caught chatting boys or rebelling against wearing the hijab. Most guys here like @Wardheere would agree with the decisions of these parents, but deny they’ve been forced into marriages as if he witnessed each case of these girls’ “dhaqan cellis”.

There isn't a somali community near me all my neighbours are caadan and i don't have much somali friends so:manny:
Same, but why pretend Somali girls (and guys!) aren’t pressured and forced into marriages, and marriage isn’t used a correcting technique?

I didn’t have to be dhaqan celis’d for people I’d never seen to start flooding the living room.

Parents don't decide who you befriend or who your classmates are. They can only help you to a certain point. I know numerous dhaqan celis people who turned out fine. Dhaqan celis is not a nice experience but I would prefer dhaqan celis over my kid bleeding out in the street over some area code beef.

Its because most somali parents with a sane mind actually do dhaqan celis for culture but some of the crazy ones usaully don't am not saying it doesn't happen but it is a minority but we should talk about it more than ignoring it

Its very unusual for somalis to force marriage. Very very unusual. Recommend and strongly advise. But sure we can still talk about it. People just need to show receipts we can discuss and not pakistani example.

There might be some successful dhaqan cellis stories, there are also other cases where it didn’t work and most of these dhaqan cellis were kept back home and away from the streets in the diaspora for their own survival and crimes/incarceration. But where were the parents when their kids turned into a life of crime? As someone sent for dhaqan cellis mentioned above, alcohol and dope was accessible to them back home. What they benefited was not to be killed in the streets of London or Birmingham or, be in jail, but they’ve introduced their diaspora lifestyle to the local youths back home. So, how do measure the benefits and detriment of their return? A PHD thesis there.

Usually fucking up in school or rumours of them being promiscuous. The parents think that sending them to Somalia will straighten them out when they return

El qashiin (magac xumaa) never mind.

If there are “rumours of promiscuity”, then they will be married off to maintain the “ family honour”. Is that statement correct?

Naah the marriage thing doesn't happen as long as she's not pregnant from what I've seen. A lot of these girls are moving hella wild usually because of the company they keep. A year or 2 in somalia and they become more stable and mature. Same with the guys but I've also seen the opposite

No marriages at all? Or, the ones you met?

Most of the dhaqan celis don't result in marriage from what I've seen we're not Asians . But there are cases. Dhaqan Celis is usually temporary and the kids do come back eventually. And the locals are prone to try to get one of their kids married to the dc kids to travel to the west. Some abuse that like this one guy told me that he'd f*ck bare tings who tried to get him to take them to Europe. They'd be from well off families but they wanted to come over here for some reason
