Why did Deni think this documentary would make us look good. Last thing we need is us being known for another terrorist group operating in Somalia. It doesn't matter much if he's making progress, that's all the people will remember.

There is also the fact that they are too far away. They would have to do a full blown invasion of waqooyi to establish a serious presence which is logistically impossible so all they could ever do were bombings.IS is extremely weak outside of West Africa, so it's hardly "kicking". Only IS-Sahel and IS-WAP are growing in any real capacity, and only the latter has a long-term growth trajectory(former is heavily limited by it's much larger rival, JNIM).

1. When they sent a unit to attack Mumin back in 2016/2017, they got wiped out.
2. SL is a qabil project by Ishaq, they monopolized all power, and so there isn't a power vaccum where AS can play different clans against each other.
3. SL is (somewhat) less retarded than the FGS.
Interestingly enough, IS supporters used to use the AS-SL conspiracy to persuade militants to defect.

Because AS and ISIS and fundamentally different organizations. AS needs a *baseline* level of support to operate as it has a mostly Somali support base and army. ISIS does not need this, and can operate with 0 local support as its funding is foreign and its fighters are too.
So in brief, ISIS does not need AS, and AS does not need ISIS.

Top brass of IS Soomaal are Somalis. You also need some undercover local support to smuggle in supplies from the sea and land. No way a group of ajanabis would be still fighting.
It’s well documented that IS-Somal is majority foreign. They have zero local support, not even clan connections since it is too small to engage in governance.
