Ugandan President confirms Somalia will join EAC

DRC is currently militarily occupied by the Russians, Israel, the US and other African & European military forces who benefit from the illegal gold mines and natural resources. Kenya & Rwanda both have military missions in DRC so they have leverage when it comes to the wealth & looting. Somalia could have done the same but they have no standing army and are in a worse position than the DRC regime itself 🤦🏾‍♂️
Can't wait for the 'EAC solutions to EAC problems' movement. Once we finish off Shabaab I support Somali troops intervening in neighbouring countries to protect our interests.

On 1 hand Somalia will gain access to markets in landlocked countries like Rwanda and Burundi but on the otherhand Somalia will be joining a Christian majority federation.

Why are some stable African countries so xaasid towards their neighbour? Djibouti exploits Somalia's fragility and Rwanda likewise exploits the DRC

Same guy who asked Uganda for money is now celebrating the EAC? We should be making deals with Eritrea and Ethiopia not Uganda. These are companies not countries. They take orders from Europeans and no one should be making deals with them unless its on a contraband level.

He's not arguing in good faith. He's viewing it in his qabiils interests.

Aside from Rwanda run by Tutsis what do you expect from Bantus and Hutus working together? Just give it a couple years and Rwanda leave the union. Take a look at the peacekeeping forces in Somalia, majority of these soldiers come from the EAC. What have they accomplished against Al Shabab? When was the last time you heard AMISOM doing anything productive?

Tanzania and Kenya are doing great

Ugandan President mentioned Somalia has a very large private business sector
We have limited manufacturing and low gdp. The only asset I can think of is our coastline which is small trade off for theoretical benefits we get. This seems to good to be true.

My skeptical side thinks they flood our markets with cheap goods killing local manufacturing, claim our coast especially Kenya , and try to limit our peoples movement into their country. If youth are able to freely start businesses and work in these countries this is a win.

Somali businesses are numerous in Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya. Once investment is made easier and trade smoother these same businesses can bring their expertises here to Somalia. All predicated on improving security however.

Your so short sighted. Rwanda is one of the fastest growing nations in the EAC with on of these most robust tech sectors and development. Somalia would be stupid not to alley with them. f*ck the Horn of Africa shit hole
Do you honestly think you need Rwanda to develop? Hello? Caafimaad ma jiraa :mindblown:

Rwanda literally has the biggest and will be the Silicon Valley of Africa and will drive innovation in the continent. Agriculture and natural resources won’t cut it for a nations economy to thrive and prosper unless you want to stay as a third world nation. We have ports and a coastline they don’t. If we can strike a favourable deal that’s a win for us

We need to take advantage of our solar and wind potential which are first in the world. We're very lucky. We're also rich in uranium which will be more sought after as nuclear energy grows

Boys and girls, let me explain one little thing, the nations that develop the fastest are the nations that have a sound industrial policy. That is all you really need, you don't need to join a free trade alliance (it might help), nor particularly have much resources (lack of resources is usually the catalyst). Just look at the Asian tigers.

Meles' Ethiopia was a cheap attempt to copy but despite that was somewhat successful. Kagame's Rwanda is today trying to follow Meles' footsteps with his Rwanda Development Board (a very good idea), but they are making many mistakes. But even a flawed industrial policy (Malaysia) is better than no industrial policy (most of Africa). Maybe I need to make a thread to educate y'all

africans love only exploiting there resources for what? For there supply to deplete in 3 decades max? What we need is industrialization that way we would have an economic boom with a high employment rate. We don’t even need to join any economic unions too, and supply countries from as far as Chad and Central African Republic with big markets.
