That's what happens when your a pawn on a chess board, you have no independence or sovereignty, always at the mercy of others.
UAE unlike Qatar has Somalia by its balls, everything we import into the country comes via their port, the salaries of our army they fund.
If they cut both not only will we starve to death because we import 90% of our food, but you will see anarchy due to mass mutiny of soldiers that have very little discipline or regard for the laws of Islam.
There is no plan to achieve self sufficiency of course, even the Gulf Arabs lack this, the only Islamic countries that have this are Turkey and Iran.
Achieving self sufficiency is not difficult just requires good planning and governance.
1. Security
Remove khawaariij, Moriyaans and reduce corruption, this alone would make agriculture worth while, significantly reduce prices and bring down the cost of living, investments would pour in. Once this domino falls, everything else falls with it.
2. Cheap Energy.
We have the highest in the world, simple investment in solar/wind farms with business districts near local ports will make local manufacturing attractive for businesses, we spend billions every year importing products/foods we can make ourselves, that's billions a year going into our own local economy, creating 10's of thousands of jobs for the locals, and money that can be spent on building infrastructure.
The exports will give strength to our currency and build up our foreign currency reserves, its mind blowing the amount of money we spend on imports every year, we are running massive trade deficit with every country despite being 100x poorer.
That's literally all you need from a high level to stop being a pawn on a chess board and self reliant.
