UAE is moving fast and building themselves.

I read some articles about their goals in 2030, like the Der Spiegel article about Energy, and damn, I got impressed with how much they are becoming like Norway in terms of using their natural resource to build other sectors in the country, escaping the rentier state dilemma.

They are already becoming a leader country for Renewable energy, yes you heard it, like solar energy, they have the biggest solar farm in the World. Not just that, they are focusing on new green-neutral sources like Hydrogen " H2 " and expected to be producing 25% of hydrogen.

So what is the deal with Hydrogen?
Hydrogen that is produced by Solar energy could replace Natural gas in the near future, and big consumer like EU, and other state, will buy them, and UAE is preparing for that by investing in it.

German companies like Siemens Energy have already established partnerships in the country, which has plenty of sun and space. Almheiri says her country is home to the world's largest solar farms. A kilowatt hour of energy costs 1.34 cents. That's a world record, she says, and a testament to the technological expertise that has emerged in her country. With that price, the production of hydrogen, the driving force of the carbon-neutral economy, has become profitable. The aim now, she says, is to produce it on a commercial scale. "That's not easy, but it is doable," she says.

Almheiri and her government are registering very precisely how the representatives of industrialized countries – who are normally fond of talking about the fight against climate change – are knocking on their door in the face of the Ukraine war. "It's always about wanting us to increase production of oil and gas," she says. The German oil and natural gas producer Wintershall, for example, is expanding production at the giant Ghasha gas field, creating 10 artificial islands for this purpose. The state-owned oil and gas company ADNOC is planning to invest $132 billion in exploration.

Qatar holds 858 trillion cubic feet of proven gas reserves, ranking 3rd in the world and accounting for about 12% of the world's total natural gas reserves. Qatar has proven reserves equivalent to 609.2 times its annual consumption. Their oil will last 405 years, their gas will last 609 years.

The UAE's reserves-to-production is about 18 years, they have no choice but to explore other avenues

You don't get it, it is a fossil fuel, biggest consumers of energy including Gas are seeking green alternatives like Hydrogen, which UAE is investing to produce in large scale with help of solar power. Once Hydrogen produce in comercial scale, parties like Green parties in Europe will push hard on replacing Gas with Hydrogen. Qatar enormous amount of gas will not help it.

I'm sure marrocco has the biggest solar farm in the world.
I think it is about the power generated, Abu Dhabi is building a solar farm that will boosts the country's to 3.2 gigawatt, the largest photovoltaic power station which is now in India produce 2,7 gigawatt.

Qatar will always have new gas markets. They’ve signed 20 year deals with China and India. Asia population will double and African’s will triple by the end of the century. The need for energy will outstrip any new renewable production.

Natural gas is the last resource to stop being used.

What about Hydrogen? It is like Gas but green-neutral. Once it becames to market, the first world will adapt to it, and they will influence African population on relying on Solar, wind, hydrogen energy sources. EU-UK are investing in africa to build and help African countries to adapt to renewable energy.

Good luck getting cars and airplanes to switch to hydrogen.

The transition we will see is from oil to electricity. And natural gas is converted into electricity. So Qatar has decades. They are best just investing in the technologies of the future once they are efficient and skip the R&D part given how much money and resources they have.

Cars and Airplanes don't use Gas, hydrogen is converted to electricity + it is gree-neutral.

Well I was assuming hydrogen would become more sought after if it did. In the meantime, it’s just a poor version of natural gas when it comes to converting to electricity. Hydrogen contains less energy per unit volume than all other fuels. Green hydrogen is awfully inefficient. Blue hydrogen is a lot better but that of course is converted from natural gas.

Qatar can always invest when the technology progresses as natural gas will still be used in the century and they’ve got an insane amount of it

They are increasing hydrogen terminals in Western Europe in large scale.

Hydrogen will take not replace Western Europe gas pipelines.

Hydrogen is dangerous to use as a fuel source. Producing it is expensive and not worth it. At the moment the technology is not there to use it.

Qatar shares its gas field with Iran, North and South Pars. Qatar has exaggerated its gas field reserves. Iran has also started using it. So it won't last more than two decades.

Hydrogen is like Natural gas, they both could be dangerous

Check Toyota's investments in hydrogen powered cars. In few decades Hydrogen cars could be the norm cars that exhaust H2O instead of electrical cars.

Hydrogen powered vehicles biggest challenge which is the lacking infrastructure as of now we need to build hydrogen production, transport, storage, and distribution industry from scratch. But if UAE makes H2 mainstream and it gains traction. In few decades there might be a good case for FCEVs. Risky long term investment opportunity.

EV are the future. No one will take a gas powered vehicle. Do you know what gonna happen if one of these went through an accident? Bomb
