USA never fully funded AMISOM, it was the EU who did. Now that due to Ukraine conflict and economical downturn in Europe, the organisation cannot fund this program anymore. Troops haven’t been paid in months, the mission is in 96 million dollars in debt. US refusing to fund this iniative is great.

EU needs to abandon this project, for now they are moving slowly, looking for funding elsewhere. Realistically, its only US and UN, the latter which is mainly financed by US mostly. EU needs to stop dragging their feet and completely disregard this mission.

AMISOM / ATMIS leaving doesn’t mean that FGS will fall to AS. Even with AMISOM, AS beat them in 2009/2010 and did not capture Muqdisho due to internal problems, leading to substantial amount of the group leaving the organisation. AMISOM’s role is to be the last line of defense against Shabaab. Their true role is to halt the attack of shabaab until western forces could swoop in (i.e bomb Arsenal into pieces).

After Talibans victory in Afghanistan, western powers especially USA do not simply care anymore about propping weak, puppet governments in faraway lands. WOT is over. Which is why FGS is alarmed and have also lobbied for continuos support for AMISOM. They want to simply loot the western ”aid” money in piece without worrying about AS taking over.

Now that westerners do not simply care anymore, they are worried. AS would simply rebrand after taking Xamar and denounce al qaeda. They would pledge to not interfere in the gulf of Aden. After this security guarantee to US, nothing would theoretically stop shabaab from capturing all of Somalia.

However, after Inshallah this mission comes to an end, FGS will make a deal with Turkey/Qatar for securiry, which they have already done. All of this depends on how much shidaal we truly have. If Turkey sees that there is enough oil, they would backup FGS significantly and precisely that worries some westerners, especially pro Israeli factions. There would be now 2 independent muslim countries on both sides of the gulf of Aden and they can’t risk that imo. Our countries location dictates alot of our fate, which is sad.

Good breakdown walal, until FGS gets its act together, Alkebab will continue getting funding by extortion, illicit trades like charcoal smuggling, kidnapping and ransom, as well as external donations and funding.

Some people are eating well off them, until that corruption is squashed, they'll continue to operate.
