i disagree unless you AA outside of atlanta, minorities including somalis go up the chain very easily in the US, starting off not knowing english to driving taxi knowing the whole city, boom from there save up to buy a corner store if asian, halal meat if arab or somali, or a 7-11 if indian and from there keep moving up, social mobility is probably better in the US, you dont hear rags to riches stories out of the rest of the world as frequently, however they have less inequality so are closer in range in europe, so its moving from 30k a year to 40k a year in europe as "mobility" while in the US it could be dead broke to billions

Yeah, it's the local culture. That and greater opportunities for educated professionals and for those with an entrepreneurial mindset. A lot of Somalis my mother went to school with in America are successful. They were there since the 70s.

I was born in the US (don't live there) but I considered relocating a couple times.

I wasn't thinking of Somalis specifically when I made that statement. It had more to do with the economic disparities in the US being greater than in the UK. I will say that the class structure in the UK is more off-putting and seems like a tool of social control. Perhaps it has impacted some of those that live there (not sure about the Somalis but there is a greater sense of complacency that I've noticed). I could be wrong.

US is 40 times bigger than UK. But has only 5 times the population. Its much richer country with a lot more oplpurtunities. Not only is 70 million cramped in this island. Yiu have Europens coming over to work in uk which creates more competition. This lead to UK having far more nepotism as there are far less resources going around.
