It's bullshit that you are 'not considered Somali' if your mother is Somali and your father isn't. It just means you are not part of the Somali clans that exist. There are plenty of groups and clans in Somalia who were founded by people who only had a Somali mother. Look at CadCads, Shanshis etc, etc.

You are more Somali than a lot of people who claim Somali and you can start your own clan.

I don't want to derail this thread, but from DNA tests alone and (ask people who lived/live in Somalia) I can tell you, that having a Somali hooyo alone, carries a lot of weight. Most of these half-Somalis just blend into their Reer Abti's family and clan. That's why we see people from major Somali clans that have foreign haplogroups.

Plus, people with Somali mothers, are linguistically and culturally very Somali.
That's why people's first language is called the "Mother's tongue".
