Harari are an ethnicity of the city of Harar which was the home of Islam in the horn. It was the capital of the Adal empire.

The ethnicity started to form after the futuh in 1500s when a Somali Sultan of the city built a wall around to keep the Oromo out, who started migrating all around the region after the weakened adal sultanate.

The people already within the city like Somalis, Various Habasha, a few Yemeni traders, and other tribes. Who were stuck together in this city, Mixed together over centuries to form this Islamic ethnic group we now call harari after the city. For some reason the Semetic influence in language was stronger which is why it's Harari called Ethio Semetic. However it's got lots of influence from all languages that were within including Somali.

After Menelik II took the city and forced the sultanate of Harar to surrender their state. The abyssinnians started a process of dismantling harar. Which stood as the house of Islam in the horn treasured by muslims including somalis, and was the base of some of the greatesg sultanates. Who fought Ethiopia.
Eventually the walls were opened and Oromo especially started flooding the city after being held outside for centuries. Christianity penetrated the city as well due to habash. As shown before Halie Salassie genocided hararis and forced many out. Which is ironic since Haile Selassie was born and raised in harar around Hararis, Somalis & Oromo which he all later Opressed.

It's the lighting I think. It's just stone. Somalis built thousand of stone walls all around the peninsular for towns and cities.

We built with stone for a millenia, which is why somalia has so many sites we know of dating to antiquity. However rest of sub saharan Africa has almost nothing from that time since they dint build using stone and other things like mud which broke apart.

It's overblown. It was 300, it was thousands. And it only achieved was making the Persians not conquer tiny sparta. The Persian empire was still the strongest state in the entire region. They just didn't take over a small peninsula smaller than Djibouti. It's just another european exaggeration of their history.

Rest of Greece was under Persian domination until Alexander.

Persians were the one of the longest and greatest state crafters in history. They had a powerful empires fighting not only the babylon and assyria and even Kush. But also fought Alexander, was the rival of Rome for it's enite history, and finally defeated by the Arabs. That's thousands of years of State craft and ruling over the middle east.

If Sayyid betted on the Anglosphere and made treaties to obtain Italian possessions in Somaliweyn and eventually the rest of SL after a while that would’ve been nice. Eventually setting up clan emirates like Hawiye, Darod, Issaq, Dir/Issa etc maybe even Socotra but under a central gov in Harar or smth we’d be among the more stable and richer countries on the continent
