Turkey signs a new deal with UAE that will direct traffic away from Somalia

TurkeyPhiles will never understand geopolitics and that countries only have their own interest at heart. I cannot believe there are people who think Turkey actually cares even an iota about Somalia. Only infantile Somalis and other Africans fail to understand how cutthroat politics and business is.

Why would they pick a longer route?

It's really insane how much money passes through somali waters through the suez canal, and how little that is taken advantage of

That's my point.

Turkey and all of these countries are all just looking out for their interest, but Somali and other African politicians are the ones who leave the negotiation tables bringing fake stories of 'partnership' and 'help' to their people.

It’s your own misunderstanding not anyone else’s.

No fuc*ing shit Turkey is looking out for its own interests first and foremost. Why do you Turkophiles think that your the only ones that see this?

A β€œpartnership” does not mean β€œcharity”. A partnership has to be economically sustainable and mutually beneficial (long term).

Their previous route through the Red Sea was 3 times longer, fair enough if they using a shorter route between them. They just made it cheaper and shorter for them selves and probably less maritime tax. This is business between 2 nations that doesn’t concern us. People need to understand not everything turkey does have to evolve around us.

Firstly, Sharjah isn’t the UAEs main port and Turkey isn’t a major trading partner of the UAE.

Secondly, half of that route goes through Iran, an openly hostile nation to the UAE and GCC.

Thirdly, nearly every other country passes through Somali waters and we never took financial advantage.

Regardless of this, I hardly see why Somalis should lose sleep over the possibility that items going from one nations second-tier port to another nation may not go through Somalia, a situation we would not have financially benefitted from anyways.

I could be wrong but that’s my opinion.

It is the Emirates that have taken this initiative and its part bigger GCC strategy towards Iran. GCC has tried by various means to change Iran's hostile attitude without success. There newest strategy is to use economic incentives wich will make it unprofitable for Iran to continue with their aggressive attitude towards the Gulf.
