turkey says, Turkey EU membership for Sweden's Nato membership.

dude, this means, no nato membership for Sweden. No way EU will let Turkey in. Greece will kill itself before that happens.,
Turkey should be in the EU, it would take them out of the sphere of russian influence and they would be a strong ally to expand western interest in the middle east/central asia.

It would not work for several reason, first democracy, EU will prefer not to take another semi dictatorship state into its club.
Second, Turkey islamic and history, Greece will not allow it, let alone other anti islam anti non European cultures. even if a secularists came, some EU members will still have biases like Greece. Turkish ppl could be secularists and even anti-theists, but never unpatriotic.

Its a shame people put their identity before their interests and you’re right poland/greece/hungary would not allow it. What is the other semi-dictatorship in the eu?

Hungary is categorized by EU as semi dictatorship, Poland to be almost in that path.

At this point, it's humiliating for Sweden to still aspire for NATO membership. The process has stalled with no indication of improvement any time soon. The only way I can compare with is a dog on a leash, being to told what to do. smh :susp:

How did y'all forget about Cyprus? They have a more hardcore stance towards Turkey than Greece, since their country is officially occupied by Turkey. There's no way in hell that they'll allow until a complete removal of Turkish presence on the island and forcing Turkey to agree on a complete re-unification of Cyprus.

Turkey should form it's own bloc in the middle east instead of trying to force its way into Europe. Turks are known enemies of Europeans in their surrounding area and are seen as muslim foriengiers in the parts of Europe they haven't conquered.
Europe likes to brag about how "open" it is but they still have their limits and wouldn't allow a muslim ottoman successor state into their cadaan club.

I met this Cypriot girl in my college who told me she was a ethnic turk and explained some things to me. I don't think you can make the island a part of one country without pissing one of the large groups there off. Personally I support the turks cause they are muslim but I don't care about the outcome nessesarily, I'm more worried about my own region (the horn) so my opinion isn't strong.

YES; I don't know how that slided from me, anyway Greece stands with Cyprus all the time, basically they are one state.

Possibly if EU was a co-operational union like African Union. But given the supranational union that EU is today, where Brussel have a big say in the affairs of the member states, I'm not sure how it would work out.

The laws and (supreme) courts of EU (in theory, not much in practice) supersede all national laws and courts of the member countries. Turkey would not even budge to this at all. They would most likely demand EU to reform and adopt to Turkey, lol.

Given how each country have veto right, and Hungary holding EU hostage whenever they feel like it, despite unanimous consensus in the bloc, it would most likely play out the same with Turkey, but worse.

To add to this, Turkey barely get along with many EU countries. All in all, it would frankly amount to disaster.

forget cyprus for a minute. do you really think the eu wants turkey in it? the eu would hypothetically have a border with iran iraq syria. kkk.

I know. Even when you put aside the religious aspect aside, Turkey would in that scenario have the largest voice in the EU parliament; something Germany and France would not allow under any circumstances.

Look at this chart. Already as it is, do many western EU countries hate contributing a surplus, which is redirected to leeching (kkk) eastern/southern EU countries. Imagine how much Turkey would receive?

As far as sharing border with middle east, that would not be an immediate problem since they can just shun Turkey from the Schengen, and thus no access to freedom of movement. For instance, Romania have been part of the EU for 16 years, but they're still denied the ability to ascend into the Schengen.

You guys are dreaming if you think Turkey will be allowed in the EU :mjlol:

No western EU nation particularly Germany or France will want Turkey to have more MEP than them in the Euro Parliament since it is based on population. Turkey also seems to have a failing currency.

Turkey and the Balkan’s will not see EU membership anytime soon but they have a way better chance than Ukraine if I am being honest.

So Turkey bowed down in the end? :mjlol:

What did they get in exchange for the letting Sweden in?
They may be let into the eu, turkey is a shining beacon of democracy in the region and a stepping stone for western power projection in central europe and the levant.
