The secessionists' grievances about the military regime, which ended in 1990, are seen as a Scapegoat.
Isaaq’s real issue stems from dissatisfaction with their political influence in Somalia. After Somalia united in 1960, they anticipated greater power but faced setbacks, including a failed coup attempt in 1961 due to not getting the PM position. Their dissatisfaction is rooted in their political marginalization and political alliances like the wave of Irirism which was started by Isaaq, such as the influence of Darood and Hawiye factions, and losses in conflicts like the Gojacadde war that further weakened them. That caused them to be vessel for Ethiopia (MOU) they went as far as inviting oromo tribal leaders & claimed they’re related to oromo.
Another one of their failed tribal alliances.
