When he name drops nationalities like this, is the president inevitably inciting hatred and somewhat violence in the form of retaliation towards this group on purpose? The tweet, especially the 'get smart people' part might aswell have said 'americans, beware of any somali you meet as they are terrorist sympathisers and want to redo 9/11, or like somali ilhan puts it 'something' '. Even though the global somali image isnt the best, at least outside of the US the somali name is at least under the radar and not too much of a negative perception to the general public. It seems recently the fairly insignificant somali name is being dragged through mud over in the states and is actively being used to incite fear and attatch otherness to it, and cant help but think this will cause many problems for the somali community, mainly in the US, in the future.

im not sure on US politics much, but when congressmen/women run for office, do they have campaigns and policies geared for the betterment of the people in the state, or do they campaign on policies and ideas that would help and appeal to the average american more than the, in ilhans case, the minnesotan? i cant see how all of the views, policies and bills she attatches herself to made her so popular in minnesota.

Not sure on American politics much, but I believe the Minnesotans elected her so she needs to represent them, but she keeps saying controversial stuff. I mean if you stand by those beliefs then back them up all the way. Otherwise no point saying it and then taking it back. There’s already a lot of tension in America and she’s bringing Somalis to the spotlight and not in a good way.
