Somaliland controls most of the land, 4 out of 5 regional capitals, people vote in every region of Somaliland for president. Don't lie to yourself. The bit remaining will return with recongition. Somalia can't fight it.
Puntland will get support as long they steps out of that area and everything will be good. That will probably be how things are settled. Puntland elites predict this why they are good with Somaliland.

If any country in the world deserved to have a country as a reward to sucking up to the West it would have been the Kurds. There is every incentive to carve them up a country within the borders of Syria and Iraq but it will never happen.

Kurdistan would impact Turkey which is major NATO ally.
Iraq government is stable and they have working federal structure. Kurdistan has achieved significant independence but not recognition.
Mogadishu is just a clan fiefdom that hasn't managed to create any political structure since recongition and so there's no point recognizing it's soveriengty over somaliland which will destabilize the Red Sea area and invite Chinese dominance.
There's no real downsides to recongizing Somaliland and more to gain to stabilize the horn Africa and red sea area and create lasting US ally.
But you see China is very interested in helping Somalia dominate the red sea and blockade the west. Somalia is very anti western and its recognised government is Islamist in nature. The US has to prevent China from dominating a very geo-strategic important sea way.
Somalia can never work with the west, hence why only a few nobodies has an embassy there. This will make sure to prevent terrorism from spreading AND check mate Chyna! Imagine the terrorist haven Somalia with a US base, they would never let that happen LOL.

Somalia is very close to the west and has a working relationship with the likes of Turkey. I highly doubt the U.S would ever accrpt carving up Somalia especially for so little gain and at the risk of Somalia falling to Chinese influence due to betraying the Somali government.
Kurdistan would get in the way of Turkey and Iran but likewise, Somaliland recognition would piss off Turkey, Egypt and Qatar who all either have major investments in Somalia or see it as a political ally.
At the end of the day the Horn is even more unstable than the Middle East so America isn't willing to do any drastic actions especially for so little gain. They already have plans in building new bases in Somalia.
