The point is Siad Barre's immediate family has been implicated in controversial arrangements right under his nose per Washington post.

Or do you want us to believe they fled abroad without a single penny and lead a frugal lifestyle in exile?

The whole thread is silly and intellectually dishonest. I could claim HSM wasn't corrupt nor loved money because he had a modest salary and house lmao. Everyone and their dog knows the worst corruption is done behind closed doors. Afwayne's sons and daughters may have went to normal schools but that was followed by an instant promotion into the Army chief roles, NISA, Central Bank etc. I could post a whole list of close family members that were sucking the countries coffers dry. When the government was on it's last legs, many of his wider network of friends and family robbed the bank, robbed the country's gold, robbed landcruisers, robbed anything they considered of Worth before heading to Kenya and the States.

Still held the office of President. You could say the same with Madoobe, who wasn't born in his region and maybe not even in the country.

Just so I understand properly, there was corruption with his clanmates and associate clans but he just wasn’t benefiting his family and region?

Maybe he didnt feel like he needed money because he thought hed die in power:zhqjlmx:

In practice anyone born in Ethiopia has immediate citizenship. People come from Hargeisa say they are from Dhagaxbur and get citizenship all the time.
Am I shamelessly going to say others didn't benefit from the government, no. Was there corruption, yes. Did he, the person in question, Mohamed Siad Barre AUN engage in it himself, no.

Dictators are always prepared, the stash fund is ready at a moments notice, he would have at least stole a bit. Become like IOG and have his funds outside the nation or like HSM and steal it in fron of your eyes. Or at least, built a house, in a prime area of Mogadishu. Something, the bank is in your hands, he could have done anything really. But he never, nor did he ordered to funnel money and make his own regions the Latakia of Somalia. The person in question, isn't corrupt himself. The surroundings, maybe, others, yes.

:manny:, true but don't they claim Ogaden as well? Not that a Ethiopian passport has any significance, but in practice, they would have lied right, and applied, not gained automatically by just being born in the region?

Pan africanist = instant islamophobe

Pan africanist that is muslim = still hate Somalis and call us slave traders

Somali Pan africanist = lost youth in their teens and early 20s

and then you have Kacaanist who brag about what they did for Africa and Arabs, but have nothing to show for it.

He was power hungry, not financial hungry. He left with the same amount of properties he came in with. Those around him may have been corrupt, but truthfully, he wasn't. His family was taken care of by the late Sultan Qaboos AUN after he died, and live a normal lifestyle today.

Before 91, leaders such as Aden Adde AUN, Sharmake AUN and Siad Barre AUN wasn't after financial gains. Then today we have the likes of HSM and others who either takes money in front of public eyes, or allow their close ones to take it without repercussions....
That's completely false lol, Somali politicians were always known for being corrupt and using state funds for personal reasons. Passage below is from one diplomat describing the temperament of leaders of the Somali government in the 60's, Siad Barre just kicked the corruption up a notch and ran the country like a personal bank.

MSB AUN never stole a single penny, he was so modest that his own bedroom in Villa Somalia was quite simple. He worked hard for his nation and was repaid by insults and buffoonery. We didnt deserve such a great man.

It's an Isaaq behind this page.
A failure of a human being :heh:

Why would an isaaq just focus on the negative side of hargeisa's roads. Sure they're bad but it's an upgrade from being bombed from above.

said barre started good but then slowly paranoia and corruption took him down. but he is not also the only person who brings the downfall of Somalia.
But he has the most responsibility for the civil war.
