If you are ready to be stopped and searched constantly upon entrance in any city, officers demanding bribes, and to be constantly interrogated for your clan ties then go right ahead. I would not recommend a diaspora born kid especially a woman to go on such a trip alone. If you are going you better be meeting a relative at whatever airport you land at so they can escort you, or go with someone who understands the ins and outs of the zoo. Visiting random cities in Somalia where you have no family is asking for trouble, especially with broken Somali

No matter how good you think your somali is trust me its not gonna be good enough and people will notice it, but it should get naturally better if you stay there long enough

Checkpoints is only south, if youre from puntland it should be fine, just bring family with you like an aunty who knows the place, if youre planning on going from djibouti to SL you can either take a car or a flight, only downside with going by road is the djibouti border is horrible top 10 worst places on the whole continent, but the scenery and trip is worth it

Also ask your parents for your abtirsi and write it down, it comes in handy a lot of times and some people could ask you, also dont your parents have someone you can stay with as a guest ?

You dont need to go all the way back to akeel lol just need to know your reer, for example if youre isaaq just saying youre garhajis or habr awal is not enough, and if youre habr awal saying youre makahil is also a bit vague so you need to know the reer below that, so basically sub sub sub clan, at least thats how my parents did it, personally I've never had to mention it
A month is enough actually, most people stay for a month or two unless youre also visiting reer mii

Nah its small circles most people recognize each others and know the different families, if no one knows you or your parents or your grandparents its gonna be a bit suspicious probably, I was kinda surprised when I went random dudes knew my grandpa when I mentioned him
