Abdinur Sh. M. Ishaq: TPEC will start work on voter registration rules

TPEC has banned any conferences by political associations during the Covid-19 health emergency. “TPEC is working on voter registration rules” said Abdinur.

Puntland State will conduct pilot local government elections in several districts next year. Efforts to conduct local elections in Puntland strengthen the decentralisation process.

In 2013 similar efforts to establish political associations and conduct local elections bore no fruits. The incumbent President, Abdirahman Farole, was in the last year of his term in office.

Acccusations about inadequate consultations with stakeholders led to shelving of the democratisation process in the first autonomous administration in Somalia.

This is going to be huge. If Puntland manages to hold district level elections next year, it would show the international community that it is serious about democratization. We need a lot of help from the UN, US and EU in order to hold elections for governors and president. I just hope that they don’t create new clan based districts to please every single clan.
